I gave the garment of my life to You today, Lord,
I surrendered it as fully as I could.
"You alone can mend it, Jesus, please do it now", I prayed,
And then I took it back again.
I looked at the tattered edges,
The patience worn too thin,
And with my dull old needle,
I began to sew again.
I tried to use a brand new patch,
But knew it wouldn't do.
Somehow the old life didn't match,
I needed something new.
At last with great reluctance,
I surrendered it once more.
"Oh mend my life, dear Jesus",
I prayed just as before.
Then from the heights of heaven,
A voice came loud and clear,
"I'd gladly mend your garment,
if you'd only leave it here!" Doma
